Photo AlbumWhat is DCCF?The essence of CrossFit is a view that fitness is about performing well at any and every task imaginable. Picture a hopper loaded with an infinite number of physical challenges and being asked to perform random feats drawn from the hopper. The implication here is that fitness requires an ability to perform well at all tasks, even unfamiliar tasks, tasks combined in infinitely varying combinations.
Workouts involve the use of kettlebells, bodyweight drills, Olympic weight training, and cardiovascular conditioning. Unlike other gyms, A COACH IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE to assist and direct you to ensure safe and proper technique and help achieve long-term success. Furthermore, this coach is included as part of your monthly membership. As a member of Derby City CrossFit, not only will you get coaching every day you’re at the gym, you will also have access to a massage therapist, Pilates classes, and nutritional advice. CrossFit is focused on improving performance in the 10 recognized general physical skills of fitness: • Cardiovascular Endurance • Speed • Muscular Strength • Muscular Power • Agility • Balance • Coordination • Accuracy • Flexibility • Stamina We’re conveniently located in the heart of downtown Louisville, inside the Sign-A-Rama building on E. Market St. Give it a try, Louisville! You’ll never want to try another gym! If you still want to know more, click here. Greetings to all! I am trying to knock these out earlier in the day, which mean they won’t be as long as previous posts, but, some days you got it and some days you don’t. Oh it isn’t writers block or anything, it is the fact that my Trapezius muscles won’t cooperate and holding my arms in place to type is a struggle at best.
Why is it so hard you wonder?
Cuz my form sucks.
Like a lot of you, years of Benching, Seated, Shoulder dumbbell presses, and listening to ‘experts’ tell me to never EVER use my back or “rock” when lifting (not to mention the fact that just about ANY compound movement that begins with the weight on the floor I avoided like an AIG CEO running from Michael Moore) has left me woefully weak in certain areas and as I said to myself this morning, it is like being Pavlov’s Dog; only someone gave me to Mike Vick, and I gotta unlearn old things and relearn a whole new skill set before Ben pulls my teeth out with some pliers (Just stop before anyone jumps on me: what Mike did was reprehensible, and him playing in the NFL is a friggen joke- morality trumps all law, and having been stationed in Newport News where he grew up, I can tell, you it sure ain’t ghetto- it is 5 min to Yorktown, 15 min to Williamsburg, 20 min to VA Beach and sits around no fewer than 11 military bases- don’t believe his “it’s how I grew up BS”- he is a punk, look no further than his younger brother…but funny is funny).
Well, I am officially down to typing with one hand, so I gotta run.
BTW- I started with 65, went to 85, got yelled at for piss poor form(deserved), dropped back down to 65 and worked back up to 95. Went for max reps, got yelled at for doing too much too soon (the rest thing is another habit I need to break) and then Ben, pliers in pocket, made me row 300 meters…I crawled away from the Rower, tail tucked.
Ed
KAT- The Asian Talapia was great!
Once again, Ed’s post gets me through the day. Thanks.
ed, please get those trap muscles healed in a hurry. I thoroughly enjoy the banter.
Time constraints had me working out at the Y this morning.
Doing Oly lifts at the Y is no bueno.
The conversation went like this with the “trainer” who was hanging around the free-weight area:
“Uhhhh, like, uhhh, you aren’t allowed to wear shower-shoes in the freeweight area….”
Me: “Are you aware that Arnold trained for 7 Body-building championships in nothing but shorts and shower-shoes?”
Trainer-guy: “Uhhhhh…no.”
Me: “Maybe you should rent ‘Pumping Iron’…”
OK- I was gonna post this timorrow AM, but I can’t. I went BACK at 6 PM. Did sets of thrusters with 75 pounds, interceded with sets of deadlifts starting at 185 and working up to 275.
Workd in groups of 5 to 8 on the thrusters, and groups of 5 for the deadlifts. Saved the 275 for last, but I got it 4 times. Lost count because I lost the ability to count around 240 pounds…
Took me 18:14 to fry myself.
See you in the AM!
Ed
So I had my meeting with Ben & Sean this morning and we lined out a plan, but first I had to decide what my goal is. What do I want from CrossFit?
This was a tough one. Honestly? I want to look like I did when I was 25 (not to be confused with wanting to BE 25 again…not in a million years kids and when you get to be my age you’ll understand that, for now you’ll just have to trust me).
So here’s what I came up with.
I want to look like Sam (DCCF’s answer to Annie) and drop as much weight as Frank (who’s about half the man he used to be).
At my age (I’ll tell you if you ask) and considering my sedentary lifestyle other than when I’m at DCCF, this goal may take me a while to acheive. So I’ve set my sights on next year…June 12th, 2010 to be exact…which will be my one year anniversary doing CrossFit.
And so it begins…
Snatch 7×1 (first time really attempting a max on squat snatch) 175.
I’m curious if Ed is Pavlov’s dog what makes him salivate?
.com: 135 155 175pr 200f 200f 200f 200f
It would seem that Vick in uniform makes him salivate.
The man was given a sentence which he served and has paid his debt to society. If anything else remains to be settled then kharma will see to that but till then he derserve the chance to once again be employed and pursue an honest life. It is beyond our ability to judge whether or not he intends to do so.
Ignor AC he hates dogs.
and the dutch.
thought i posted this yesterday…
snatch 7X1 155
i’ll take the dutch over the french any day.
