Training hard is an important part of any workout routine. However, a common misconception and much over looked aspect of training is RECOVERY.

“Training recovery” is just as, if not more important, than training hard. There is the conventional understanding of training recovery like rest, proper nutrition, water, supplements, stretching, etc. However, there is a little know understanding of training your nervous system to recover. When you train hard, your sympathetic nervous system engages in preparation for your intense workout. After the workout is over, your nervous system doesn’t always know how to “back off” and let go of the tension it is holding onto. This is evidenced by stiff achy joints, decreased flexibility, tension, and in general longer recovery periods for your body. This of course impedes performance and hampers your body to perform optimally.

There is a solution though. There is a way to train your nervous system to let go of this tension and stress in your body more efficiently and effectively. The way to achieve this through comfortable body positioning. You can think of it like those Chinese finger games where you pull your fingers apart and the game gets tighter, if you push them together the game loosens. Your body functions the very same way. When you take the tension off of a part of your body that is tight, tense or sore you allow the ability of your nervous system to engage and let go of the tension on its own without all of the stretching and trying to make your muscles relax.

This is actually not a new idea. This concept was developed by an Osteopathic Doctor named Laurence Jones… I have included a video that I found on the internet giving an explanation of what I am talking about: http://www.ehow.com/video_4431667_strain-counter-strain-joint-therapy.html

It is not a very difficult concept to learn and has quite profound effects in the body. As a result it will allow your body to recover quicker so you can attain better performance from your body allowing for better workouts, larger gains, faster times, and greater freedom in your own skin.
